Leolaia,
I sent you a private message
i noticed in the "magic" thread many former jw's no longer adhere to the bible as the unerring and accurate word of god.
if you feel this way, can you please list any specific reasons/arguments as to why not.
this thread isn't for debating purposes, but simply for listing.
Leolaia,
I sent you a private message
ya know what!
i'm tired of being polite and nice to jws.
esp when they try to shame you to your face with a smile.
JW's leaders make me mad because they say the stupidist things to justify their positions. Here's an email from an elder of a congregation. He was raised in the truth, he is also replacement of the c.o and a big honcho in every c.a. and d.a. He has 3 brothers, one has been a c.o. for many years, second is a lawyer in bethel, third brother is an elder who is also pursuing a law degree too. Oh I forgot his father is a retired medical doctor and an elder. I believe there's two other brothers, one I don't know the scoop, the other is DF'd.
The following is a part of multiple e-mails that he and I exchanged regarding the watchtower publications, prophecies, creation and higher education. I will post more later. Read and tell me if it doesn't make you cringe:.
"...Personally, I don't give more creedence to a scientists conclusions than I do to a polititian, religious leader or guy on the street. I also test everything I read in the Watchtower Publications. They are not perfect, they have been wrong before and I expect they will also be wrong in the future. But that applies to all publications. If, for example, a scientific journal reports one thing today, and next year informs us that new discoveries have shed new light on the subject and modified the previous conclusions, we hail it as a truth-seeking publication. That is what the Watchtower Publications are. They do not pretend to be inspired by God. Only the Bible can boast that distinction."
inside my head is a tangled ball of wool when it comes to what i believe.
i have days where i believe in a creator and other days when i don't.
then there are times when i refer to this as believing in 'something' but what exactly this something is, i have no idea.
I have never been a JW, but I have a wife, a daughter, two brothers and lots of friends who are.
Here's my two cents. Don't wory too much, just learn, read about science, philosophy, other religions, other cultures. You may never reach a conviction of the existence of a caring God, but the journey is mighty interesting and actually distracts you from your unnecessary concern about a caring God. As a person who is always interested in science, philosophy and in learning from smarter men, I find solace in knowing that I have reached similar conclusions about God as Albert Einstein and Baruch Spinoza did. I am willing to believe in a creator of the universe and the harmonious laws that regulate it. But certainly I do not believe in the God of the bible who dispenses reward and metes out punishment.
just like in another thread a saw, the best way to deal with my jws is not debating or arguing, but instead posing questions for them to answer or not answer.
i want to come up with specific questions relating to the 'global flood' that completely debunk it.
what say you, jw.net?.
Leolaia,
You and others in this site write as if you could have never been indoctrinated in the JW faith. You display erudition in your comments that makes it hard to believe that you could have ever been sold such conspicuosly fallacious argumentation as that of the WTS. Could I ask you for a very brief explanation of your background?
By the way, thank you. I never fail to read closely any of your comments whenever I see them. They never disappoint. Actually, they are always great.

Note I did not want to calculate the exact total, because the extremely arduous task of accounting for the zero year is beyond my abilities.
Funny! Unbelievable. A religion with 7 million members and billions in assets was founded by a man who couldn't perform basic Math
from the fall of 607 b .c.
to the fall of b .c.
from the fall of b .c.
I get the feeling that this subject has been discussed ad nauseam before, but I had to show you the following quote that I found in page 239 of “The Truth Shall Set You Free”, a book published in 1943 by our favorite publishing company. The title couldn’t be more ironic.
By the same rule the "seven times", or "times of the Gentiles", amount to 2,520 years. In Nebuchadnezzar's time the year began counting from the fall of the year, or about October 1, our time. Since he destroyed Jerusalem in the summer of 606 B .C., that year had its beginning in the fall of 607 B .C. and its ending in the fall of 606 B .C. Inasmuch as the count of the Gentile "seven times" began its first year at the fall of 607 B .C., it is simple to calculate when they end. From the fall of 607 B .C. to the fall of B .C. 1 is exactly 606 years. From the fall of B .C. 1 to the fall of A.D. 1 is one year, do not forget. Hence from the fall of B.C. 1 to the fall of A .D. 1914 is 1,914 years. Add now 606 years and 1,914 years, and the sum total is 2,520 years, ending in the fall of A.D. 1914.
Here the Watchtower not only is it lying (Babylonian years started in March or April, never “about October 1, our time”, but also the WTS is counting on their readers’ intelligence to be below average. And, since there was no indication of massive quitting in the 1940’s, then the average intelligence of JW’s was below average, or most never read the book. As late as 1943 the WTS still uses 606 B.C. as the year of the fall of Jerusalem, and tries to correct their zero error in calculating 2,520 years of the “Gentile Times” by explaining that to calculate the time between two events you go back one year from the starting point and then subtract this new date from the end date. It’s as if I were saying “I was born in Sept. 1965, but to figure out my age in Sept 2012 you start counting from Sept. of 1964. Therefore I am 48 years old” What????!!!!
threads arise were elderly jw's are discussed, and we see thoughts that it's ok to be a jw if it makes them happy, or that it would be cruel to tell them ttatt after having spent their entire lives as a jw.. on the flip-side, other threads discuss teens who commit suicide after their immediate families (including their own grand-parents) shun them, as does everyone else in their kh.
the outrage rises to the point where the tendency is to accuse anyone who's a part of the organization of sharing in the blood-guilt.
that actually makes sense to me: jws claim that even being a cook in the military violates the neutrality principle, since it frees up someone else to carry a weapon; hence being a member of the military in any capacity is sharing in the blood-guilt.
accuse anyone who's a part of the Organization of sharing in the blood-guilt. That actually makes sense to me
Most dubs are victims, how can they share in any blood guilt? We don't even hold guilty most of the rank and file of Hiltler's army for killing Allies' soldiers.
Any age would be an arbitrary number to select who is a good/bad candidate to be awakened. I know relatively young adults from very humble backgrounds who have little education, earn low wages, and have no aspirations to improve their status. They, however, seem very content with the beautiful lies of the WTS and the social network of brothers and sisters provided courtesy of the Borg. I have to say: leave them alone.
Young people, especially those raised in democracies with access to information and opportunities to education and economical/social upper mobility definitely need to be awakened as soon as possible. It's a crime not to awaken them, especially if we are next of kin or good friends
i'm sure many of you have been wondering why the wts has stuck to it's adamant viewpoint of higher education.
let's settle it once and for all.
this will prove conclusively why it's in young people's best interests to avoid higher education.. candace conti has inspired hundreds, perhaps thousands of young girls across america to successfully take on the wts.
Recovery,
Evidently you buy the WTS argument that Higher Education is pursued for prestige, social position, power, money. The reason the WTS discourages higher education is because people acquire critical thinking skills that obviously are lacking in you and just about any JW I know.
well.....i am now officially on the precipice of divorce.
it started last tuesday night.
my wife brings the kids home at 10:00 pm after the meeting....then dinner....then ice cream.
Outsmart,
I am not a JW, but married a JW 18 years ago. We have two children, 12 and 16. Things had gone well until my 16 y.o. daughter ask me for permission to get baptized. I gave a long good for nothing speech about being alert, but consented anyways. I deeply regret my decision and call that mistake the worst I have done in my life. After some research I realized the power of the Watchtower indoctrination. I always thought their prophecies and stands in many controversial issues were... well, very silly. Today, I believe, the Watchtower is dangerous. It robs children of their dreams, their creativity, their originality. Don't wait to prevent your children from further indoctrination. I waited too long, and now more and more I realized how insidious the "silly" message is. I have a tough battle in front of me. Removing deeply implanted messages of mind control gets tougher as they get older.
By the way, I have done exactly what you did, I split the time of the meetings and assemblies. The new policy is "An hour with you, an hour with me, a day with you, a day with me". I just started few weeks ago. It doesn't feel that I am making much progress, but I'm not giving up. Use this goal of rescueing your children from the clutches of one the most fraudulent religions that ever existed as your medicine to motivate you and prevent you from despair and depression.
Hang in there.
so this is what my soon to be ex says to me today...the same person who is courting wooing and flirting with a sister and has been for a very long time even way before i told him i wanted a divorce.
he tells me that they "dont spy on people any more to get proof" that my just telling him i did or him telling the elders that i did is "sufficient" for him to be free.
he also said hes not allowed to talk to said sister any more because she is "spiritually free" but not divorced yet!
Yes, officially the WTS says that sex can only happen at night and not during the day.
Blondie,
Could you give me the reference to this unbelievable assertion?
